Liverpool are said to be interested in Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco. The Argentine is a tremendous prospect.
Calciomercato provided this information. According to the Italian outlet, Liverpool are now expected to enter the race for left-back Valentin Barco, which is heating up.
They’re covering Juventus’ own interests. The Italians don’t appear to be put off by the competition for Barco, with Liverpool being the only threat mentioned by name.
However, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding Barco this year. Back in September, Goal mentioned both Brighton and Manchester City, while 90min listed Chelsea as entering the race in October.
Now there’s talk of Liverpool, and it’d be surprising if the Reds didn’t look into it.
Barco is currently making a name for himself in Argentina. Despite still being a teenager, he has broken through at Boca Juniors, impressing both offensively and defensively.
According to Fbref, he’s averaging two tackles per 90 minutes and contributing to around two shots per 90 minutes. Furthermore, he should be able to accurately deliver the ball into the penalty area at least once per game, while also consistently breaking into the final third.
Overall, the raw talent exists for a fantastic left-back. It’s also exactly what Liverpool will be looking for in the long run as they seek Andy Robertson’s replacement.
The Scot will almost certainly be remembered as the club’s greatest-ever left-back and one of the greatest English footballers of all time. But, of course, he won’t be an elite player indefinitely.
Barco, who is 19 years old, is one of the position’s brightest prospects. Liverpool will almost certainly be interested in him as a result, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Fans can expect to hear the name a lot more in the coming year.
