Harvey Elliott hit a stunning double for England U21s in their 3-0 win over Northern Ireland on Tuesday.
After debutant Tyler Morton opened the scoring for the Young Lions in the U21 European Championship qualifier, Elliott netted in the second half with a curling free-kick and added another late on with a dinked finish.
Jarell Quansah also started and finished the game at Goodison Park.
In other news, Cody Gakpo scored for the Netherlands as they won 6-0 away at Gibraltar to clinch Euro 2024 qualification.
The attacker entered the game in the 77th minute and soon scored, with Virgil van Dijk playing the first half.
Caoimhin Kelleher also played 45 minutes in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 friendly draw with New Zealand.
Ben Doak saved a penalty late in Scotland U21s’ goalless draw with Hungary.
Earlier in the day, Wataru Endo captained Japan for 83 minutes in their 5-0 win over Syria in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, while Calum Scanlon appeared in England U19s’ 7-1 thumping of Mexico.
Uruguay, on the other hand, won yet again courtesy to Darwin Nuez, who scored two goals for his national side in a 3-0 victory over Bolivia.
He is now the only Uruguayan to have scored in four consecutive World Cup qualifiers, joining Luis Suárez and Rubén Sosa.
