The persistent speculation that Thomas Muller would join Manchester United has been debunked yet again.
In a tweet, Bayern Munich aggregator account iMiaSanMia mentioned German tabloid Bild, writing: “Manchester United had shown interest in Thomas Muller last January.” Erik ten Hag believes that Muller, with his expertise, might be one of the players that helps United get back on track. Muller, on the other hand, was uninterested at the time.”
It seems like a return to when Ed Woodward was chief executive and felt he could operate in the transfer market with elite clubs. The banker pursued big names in order to please fans, sell shirts, and gain publicity. A manipulator working for the Glazers.
Muller, 34, joining United reminds me of Bastian Schweinsteiger arriving in 2014. It goes without saying that Basti was an uninspiring signing, as was the fact that we need to move on from signing mid-30s forwards like Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo in previous years. Raphael Varane and Casemiro are in the same boat.
However, according to Bundesliga expert Jan-Aage Fjortoft, Bayern are in talks to extend Muller’s contract, therefore the player has no ambitions to leave at the time.
“It’s that time of year when Thomas Muller starts talking to Bayern about extending his contract,” Fjortoft stated. Then Manchester United is generally referenced / used to speed up the talks… “At the end of the day, the Bayern legend will sign for another year.”
I can’t help but think that this is just a ploy to earn Muller a new contract at Bayern.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not going to come in, engage professionals to oversee the recruitment side of things, and then end up signing Muller.
Louis van Gaal could have used Muller at United, but it’s too late in his career for him to join. We need to move on from that poor transfer market policy.
