Because of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stake in Manchester United, the team could be knocked out of the Europa League next season.

The British billionaire is about to finalize a £1.3 billion purchase for a 25% share with the Glazer family.

Many United supporters believe Ratcliffe’s arrival will result in a turnaround in the club’s fortunes.

However, one factor that some United supporters have neglected is the impact on their European aspirations.

Ratcliffe and the Ineos Group also own Nice in France. The club is presently second in Ligue 1 behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

According to the UK Sun, UEFA’s’multi-club ownership regulations’ dictate that if both teams finish in a Champions League berth, the team that finishes higher wins the spot, while the other is barred from competing in Europe.

Furthermore, the only possibility for both United and Nice to compete in Europe next season is for one to qualify for the Champions League and the other to qualify directly for the Europa Conference League.

United presently sits sixth in the Premier League standings.
