Before his arrest, the 22-year-old, who was sponsored by Nike, shared two photos of his collection of expensive sneakers: one of him wearing a pair of Nike Air Max 97s and the other showing off his collection.

Given that the forward is still wearing the American company’s boots, this led some supporters to wonder if the forward would once again be sponsored by the brand.

But that isn’t the case, and Nike clarified the situation in a statement after learning about the inquiries.

Mason Greenwood's Instagram activity prompts Nike to release statement

“Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete,” the American footwear company stated via the Daily Mail.

Nike terminated Greenwood’s contract, and he hasn’t signed a new one with any boot provider since his incarceration. The Englishman is free to sign a contract with another business, but given his recent history, it appears that no one wants to be connected to the player.

A boot sponsorship with one of the major sports firms may be difficult to come by because the 22-year-old is not expected to play another game at Old Trafford. Additionally, the forward is not a member of Man United, which would have been a great draw for marketers.

It’s unclear if this will put the player in hot water with Nike; the American company’s comment is probably the last we hear about this.
