Erling Haaland is fit to play against Liverpool on Saturday after returning to training following an injury sustained while on international duty.
Last Thursday, the Premier League’s leading scorer suffered an ankle injury while playing for Norway against the Faroe Islands. He later dropped out of the squad before the Euro 2024 qualifier against Scotland.
‘The injury is not serious, but he is in so much agony and has so limited function that the Scotland game comes a bit too soon,’ said Norway’s team doctor Ola Sand last Saturday.
Haaland returned to Manchester for treatment at the beginning of the week, and he was spotted in images of City’s training session shared on Thursday.
According to ESPN, the 23-year-old is expected to be available when Liverpool visits the Etihad Stadium in the early kick-off on Saturday.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Pep Guardiola will deliver an update on his striker.
On Thursday, Nathan Ake also trained with the team. The Netherlands international missed the 4-4 tie with Chelsea before the international break due to an unexplained ailment, but he appeared to be fully participating on the training pitch with the rest of the squad.
City’s other injury concerns are Mateo Kovacic, Mathues Nunes, and John Stones.
City leads the Premier League by one point above Liverpool and Arsenal heading into Saturday’s heavyweight matchup.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has received a boost of their own, with four players returning to training today.
After missing the win over Brentford before the international break, Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Ibrahima Konate have all returned to training.
Summer signing Gravenberch was unable to play due to a knee injury, so Gomez was unable to play.
Jones missed the Europa League defeat to Toulouse and the triumph over the Bees due to a thigh injury, while Konate had to withdraw from the France squad during the international break due to a hamstring problem.
