Dr. Dre, the famed rapper, hitmaker, Beats inventor, and all-around mogul, is bidding farewell to his seaside holiday house of over two decades. The 57-year-old Compton native is openly advertising his ex-wife Nicole Young’s Malibu property for an even-steven $20 million.
Dre will make a healthy profit even if the mansion sells at a big discount; he bought it in 2000 for roughly $4.8 million; in the 22 years since, Malibu property values have exploded. The three-story mansion is particularly famous for its position on Carbon Beach in Malibu, which has developed as one of the city’s most expensive districts.
The mansion is defined as a “contemporary beach estate” that “exudes total luxury and sophistication.” The opulent residence, built in the early 1990s, features floor-to-ceiling glass panels that let in natural light and provide views of the river. The front door enters into a brief lobby that leads guests to a spacious great room ready for entertainment, replete with a beautiful stone fireplace and sliding glass doors that open to a seaside balcony hidden behind gates, a courtyard-style approach, and an advanced security system.
Among the additional open-concept living areas are a kitchen with superior stainless appliances, a carpeted principal bedroom with a fireplace, a sitting area and private balcony, a primary closet with a sauna, an executive office, a recording studio, a big gym, and five guest bedrooms. With nearly 9,000 square feet, this is one of the biggest Carbon Beach mansions.
This is not Dre’s first attempt to sell his Malibu vacation property, which is a 5-minute walk from Nobu Malibu and was occupied by Nicole Young during the couple’s bitter divorce. The Pacific Coast Highway property was on the market for a few months around a decade ago, with asking prices ranging from $11 million to $12.5 million.
Dre and Young divorced in December, purportedly paying her a $100 million lump sum but keeping all of the marital houses, including the Malibu mansion, two Calabasas mansions, and a $40 million Brentwood estate he bought from Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen. His current net worth is $400 million, according to Forbes.
Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency is in charge of the listing.
