Chelsea is considering the return of Fikayo Tomori to Stamford Bridge

With uncertainty surrounding Thiago Silva’s contract extension, it appears that his exit is imminent. As a result, the Blues are considering previous academy graduate Tomori as a possible successor for the Brazilian.

Tomori signed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to Milan in 2021 for a cost of £26 million. The 25-year-old has subsequently risen to fame in Italy, helping the Rossoneri win the Serie A title in 2021/2022 and reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season.

In May, 90min reported that Tomori would be open to returning to the Premier League because he believes it will help his quest to be a regular for the England national team as he seeks more minutes.

Tomori is under contract at San Siro until 2027 and is valued at £34 million by Transfermarkt.

Back to Chelsea?

Since the entrance of Todd Boehly’s led consortium, the Blues have spent big money on center-backs. Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Ishe Samuel-Smith, and Kalidou Koulibaly, who has joined Al-Hilal on a permanent basis, were all bought for more than €200 million.

The Blues’ backline appears to be still in flux, as they have conceded 16 goals this season.

As a result, the Blues’ hierarchy has targeted Tomori for a possible summer move to help strengthen the defense in the wake of Thiago Silva’s uncertain future.

The Blues believe Tomori is mature and experienced enough to match the physical nature of the Premier League to be a towering presence in the Blues backline, having gained significant experience in the much more physical Italian League, helping Milan to the League title and carrying a mazy run to the Champions League semi-finals.

With Todd Boehly’s willingness to spend large and Tomori’s desire to play consistently for England, it is believed that the £34m valuation is well within Chelsea’s reach to bring Tomori back to his boyhood club.
