UEFA has confirmed the length of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford’s Champions League ban

Marcus Rashford will serve a one-match suspension against Galatasaray next week after getting sent off in Manchester United’s Champions League defeat to FC Copenhagen earlier this month, according to UEFA.

Following a VAR intervention, the England international, who has only scored one goal this season, was ejected in the first half of United’s 4-3 defeat to the Danish club at Parken Stadium. In a 50-50 with Elias Jelert, he went to protect the ball but went over the top and stamped on the defender’s ankle.

At the time of the event, pundits and supporters alike slammed the judgment, pointing out that Rashford was unaware of the challenge. It was obvious that he intended to shield the ball from his opponent.

United were 2-0 up when he was forced off, and they had been reduced to 2-2 by the time the half-time whistle blew. The Reds’ lead was subsequently restored by Bruno Fernandes from the penalty spot but Copenhagen recovered, scoring two late goals to take all three points.

The loss in Denmark has put great pressure on United’s players and manager Erik ten Hag ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Galatasaray. They are now bottom of Group A with two group matches remaining, and a loss in Turkey would see them eliminated from the campaign.

UEFA has confirmed that Rashford will miss the game due to suspension, thus United will have to make do without him. The incident was described as “rough play,” although there were some concerns that his suspension may have been lengthier.

It means he’ll be eligible for selection when United face Bayern Munich in their final group game on December 12 at Old Trafford. Rashford has started all four of United’s Champions League games this season, recording two assists in the process.
