Thiago Silva, defender for Chelsea, has apologized for his error-filled performance in the Blues’ 4-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Magpies scored three unanswered goals in the second half to hand Mauricio Pochettino’s team a devastating defeat, with the Brazilian to blame for Joelinton’s 61st-minute strike.

Silva’s weak throw was intercepted by his countryman, who made no mistake in sending the ball past Robert Sanchez to put the home team up 3-1.

After the game, the 39-year-old took to social media to apologize for his and the team’s performance at St James’ Park.

“I’m devastated. It wasn’t a good day for us,” The centre-back stated.

“I would like to apologize to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day.

I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger.”

The Brazilian posted the message on both his X and Instagram accounts after the defeat

Newcastle took the lead in the first half with Alexander Isak, but Chelsea equalized through a Raheem Sterling free kick.

However, Eddie Howe’s side seized the lead in the second half when Jamaal Lascelles headed past Sanchez, and Joelinton scored a third a minute later.

After captain Reece James was issued a red card for two bookable offences, the Blues were reduced to ten men.

Marc Cucurella, who was booked for dissent and received his fifth yellow card of the season, will also miss next week’s home game against Brighton.
