Fans are outraged when the Video Assistant Referee shown yet another degree of inaccuracy on Saturday afternoon, November 25.
Manchester City were denied a second goal in the second half of their thrilling match against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
During Manchester City’s match against Liverpool on November 25, Alisson Becker competes for the ball with Manuel Akanji. Michael Regan took the photograph.
In the 27th minute, Erling Haaland finished superbly to break the tie, with the reigning champions looking comfortable.
A corner was slung in after the interval, with both Alisson and Manuel Akanji going for it. Ruben Dias poked it into an empty net after the goalkeeper completely missed it. His joy, however, was cut short as Akanji was deemed to have fouled Alisson in the build-up.
Inconsistency in VAR: Joelinton vs Gabriel
Replays of the event show the Swiss defender making only minor contact. But, even worse, it has drawn analogies to Joelinton’s foul on Gabriel Magalhaes during Newcastle United’s disputed game against Arsenal on November 4.
At the time, the Magpies’ goal had withstood a triple VAR assessment, including an alleged push by Joelinton, which prompted Mikel Arteta to call the VAR a disgrace.
Consistency has been a huge talking point in VAR judgments, with many believing that if Joelinton’s shove wasn’t called a foul, Akanji should have been as well.
@HamrlessObidient mentioned;
“I don’t even know what to say, but how is that a foul?”
@joshuahearne commented:
“Shocking onfield decision.”
Times Sport reporter Henry Winter stated,
“At the risk of re-opening a cold case and re-refereeing re-refereeing, if Akanji’s first challenge/caress on Alisson is a foul, Joelinton’s unpunished 2-handed push on Gabriel was even more of a foul.” Consistency? Arteta’s wording was incorrect, but his logic was correct.”
Later, Trent Alexander-Anolrd equalized for the visitors, as Pep Gaurdiola’s team dropped points after a thrilling four-all draw with Chelsea.
As a result of Asrenal’s last-gasp triumph over Brentford, they were pushed to the bottom of the standings.
