After Manchester United’s amazing goal against Everton, Roy Keane was full of praise for Alejandro Garnacho.
In the opening minutes at Goodison Park, the teenager broke the tie with an overhead kick that he hammered home with precise accuracy.
Diogo Dalot’s cross from the right side glided into the Everton area and was met by the Argentina international, who delivered a truly spectacular finish to put United ahead.
It handed Erik ten Hag’s team a half-time lead, which was extended after the interval by Marcus Rashford from the penalty spot and Anthony Martial’s strike to record a 3-0 triumph at Goodison Park.
Keane provided his assessment on the game’s first goal at half-time, after United had looked shaky at the back and had been let off the hook by poor finishing from the Toffees.
Keane and his Sky Sports colleagues were perfectly placed to witness the shot, and the Irishman showered praise on the 19-year-old for the spectacular finish.
“Absolutely amazing,” ex-Manchester United captain Keane said. We had a fantastic view of it from behind us. It was extremely encouraging in the first few minutes, with a wonderful pass from (Victor) Lindelof, a good run from Dalot, (Marcus) Rashford getting it, a little ball down the sides.
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring against Everton.
“The ball goes into the box, and I think to myself, ‘this is in.'” that’s difficult to convey because I’ve never done that before, but when he does it, the contact he makes with it, the skill levels, as soon as it left his foot, we were right behind it.”
Keane went on to say that while he normally criticizes goalkeepers, he chose not to do so against Everton and England stopper Jordan Pickford because of the quality of the strike, with the Toffees goalkeeper at full stretch as he attempted to keep out the goal but to no avail as it landed perfectly in the top corner.
“I’m usually critical of goalkeepers, but I’ll let him off for this one,” Keane joked. A fantastic goal and a fantastic start for United.”
