Alejandro Garnacho, a forward for Manchester United, stated he “couldn’t believe” that his spectacular effort against Everton ended up in the goal as the Reds easily defeated the Toffees 3-0 in the Premier League.
Alejandro sprang into the air to connect with Diogo Dalot’s cross and looped his shot over Jordan Pickford with only three minutes remaining on the clock at Goodison Park to open the score.
We immediately drew comparisons to Wayne Rooney’s speculative goal against Manchester City in 2011, and goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial further accentuated the Merseyside victory, propelling us up into sixth place in the standings.
After scoring a fantastic goal against the Toffees, Garnacho spoke with Sky Sports to discuss the action and denied seeing the ball enter the net.
“I can’t believe it to be honest,” he began.
“I just did [it] and I didn’t see how I scored, I just listened around.
“I said: ‘Oh my god’, and for me, of course, it was one of the best goals I have ever scored. I am very happy.”
Alejandro scored just his second goal of the year, but many will recall his brilliant solo exploits during our Under-18s FA Youth Cup victory in 2022. The 19-year-old is still capable of such moments.
When questioned further by MUTV, the United Academy graduate had a characteristically candid response when asked how his goal compares to Rooney’s score versus City.
“I say it is very much like [Wayne] Rooney’s goal, I dont know which one is better,” he added. “Both are incredible goals.”
