After his amazing goal in Sunday’s 3-0 triumph over Everton at Goodison Park, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes remarked that Alejandro Garnacho was not yet a “great player.”
Bruno Fernandes (right) joked that Alejandro Garnacho did not deserve to be named Man of the Match.
Garnacho, making his third consecutive Premier League start, scored after only three minutes, smashing a spectacular acrobatic effort past Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. It was a spectacular effort by the Argentina international, who is unlikely to score a finer goal in his career.
Moving away from goal, the kid connected with Diogo Dalot’s right flank cross, and his strike struck the far corner of the goal. In celebration, he was surrounded by his teammates.
The goal was, of course, the main attraction of his day’s effort, but his entire performance was encouraging. He was a threat every time he took possession of the ball, looking to make something happen in the final third.
He hopes that his performance and goal will strengthen his confidence in the next weeks and months. Fernandes also admitted to having high hopes.
“I give him a good note just for the goal, but that is just because he knows that I have big expectations for him,” Fernandes said in an interview with Sky Sports. “He’s a fantastic player.” He isn’t a great player yet, but he has a bright future ahead of him.
“He understands that we have high expectations for him. He knows I’ll always be behind him, begging for more. It was a fantastic goal.”
Garnacho was named Premier League’s official Man of the Match, which meant he won his award during his post-match interview. Fernandes, on the other hand, was hesitant to pass it up to his colleague.
He said, with a grin, “I don’t think he deserves [it], but okay!”
