Bruno Fernandes teases Alejandro Garnacho after Manchester United’s victory over Everton

With his incredible goal in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park, Alejandro Garnacho’s status as a “great player” is still up for debate, according to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.

After just three minutes, Garnacho—who was given his third consecutive Premier League start—opened the score with an incredible acrobatic attempt that beat Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The Argentina international put on a fantastic display, and it’s unlikely that he will ever score a goal better in his career.

The youth moved away from the goal, but he still managed to find the far corner of the net after connecting with Diogo Dalot’s cross from the right side. It was inevitable that his teammates would celebrate by swarming him.

Though, quite properly, the main event of his day’s labor was the goal, his performance was encouraging all around. Every time he gained possession of the ball and tried to create something in the final third, he posed a threat.

In the upcoming days, weeks, and months, he hopes to utilize the performance and his objective as a confidence boost. Fernandes also acknowledged that he has high standards.

“I give him a good note just for the goal, but that is just because he knows that I have big expectations for him,” Fernandes told Sky Sports. “He is a great player. [In fact], he is not a great player yet, but he has a great future ahead.

“We expect a lot from him, he knows that. He knows that I am always going to be behind him asking for more. It was an amazing goal.”

Garnacho won the title of official Man of the Match in the Premier League, which was given to him following his post-game interview. But Fernandes was not exactly eager to give it to his colleague.

He joked: “I don’t think he deserves [it], but okay!”
