Raphael Varane ‘makes choice’ on his future and more Manchester United transfer rumors

Raphael Varane of Manchester United is not ‘warming’ to the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia.

Raphael Varane walks off the pitch after Manchester United's triumph over Luton Town earlier this month.

According to The Athletic, the Frenchman would ‘prefer’ to remain in Europe despite the potential of leaving Old Trafford. Following a recent drop in game time, the centre-back has been widely linked with a move away from M16.

In the pecking order, he has been surpassed by Harry Maguire, and he has lost his position as United’s primary right-sided center-back. Maguire has recently won the role after a string of flawless performances.

Varane’s recent decrease in minutes has resulted in him being heavily linked with a move away from M16 in the run-up to the January transfer window, which opens in the not-too-distant future. Saudi Arabia has been mentioned as a possible destination for the seasoned defender.

However, it is believed that he is not enthusiastic on the prospect of relocating to the Gulf country, preferring to stay in Europe. Bayern Munich has been linked to him in recent days.

He is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025, but he is said to have the option of extending his contract for another year. In August 2021, he will join United from Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Juventus is claimed to be ‘working on a deal’ to loan out United winger Jadon Sancho. According to an Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Serie A giants seek to complete a deal in the January transfer window.

Sancho has been dropped from United’s first-team squad following a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag in early September. He has not played for the club since August. As a result, he is almost expected to depart the club at the start of 2024 in order to relaunch his career.

Juventus are allegedly interested in signing Sancho on loan but will not agree to a deal that includes the option of making the transfer permanent next summer. However, the article states that the England international wants to return to his previous club Borussia Dortmund, describing the German club as his “favorite option.”

United bought Sancho from Dortmund in July 2021, following a fantastic 2020/21 season in which he scored 16 goals and assisted on 20 others in all competitions. In his time with the Red Devils, he had only 12 goals and six assists.
