Giorgio Chiellini was a fantastic defender who just expressed a crush on a certain Manchester United star.
Chiellini was once regarded as one of the world’s best center-backs. During his time at Juventus, he developed a fearsome defensive tandem with Leonardo Bonucci that became one of the club’s most iconic defensive partnerships.
He resigned from international football last year, but he is still working with LAFC in the MLS, where he has spent the last several years of his career.
Could he have been persuaded to join Manchester United? Well, he was a fan of one player and even went out and bought his shirt.
Classic Football Shirts sponsored a pop-up store in Los Angeles that featured hundreds of legendary football jerseys from the past.
Ellis Platten of the Away Days Channel invited Chiellini to the event and interviewed him for a series called ‘Shirt Shopping,’ in which the footballer selects a few jerseys to eventually buy.
The Manchester United 1994 home shirt, which featured the name of famous midfielder Roy Keane on the back, was one of the first shirts that piqued the Italian veteran’s curiosity.
“If I find, not my idol, but one player I always liked was Roy Keane,” Chiellini said.
“Yeah, Roy Keane, sometimes he was too tough, but it’s someone that could really show the emotion of play.”
He then took up his famous garment and placed it in Ellis’ arms, eager to make a deal.
At the end of the video, Chiellini was given the task of selecting only three clothes from his shopping expedition. He chose Roy Keane’s as one of his favorites and opted to wear it.
According to Chiellini, it was the “perfect size,” and we have to confess, he looks excellent in a Manchester United jersey…
