During Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon, Bruno Fernandes praised the unsung heroes of several of his teammates.
With Alejandro Garnacho winning the official man of the match award for his absolutely incredible overhead kick goal and adolescent Kobbie Mainoo receiving high praise for his maiden Premier League start, United’s academy once again grabbed center stage in this performance.
The two were the most talked-about players following the game, but the captain of United was keen to acknowledge the other outstanding players on his team at Goodison Park.
Andre Onana’s performance to preserve another clean sheet pleased Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial put in a lot of effort in the front line.
“I’m not sure. When questioned about his player of the match against Everton, Fernandes told reporters, “I think it was a great performance from many players.” “I believe that I would contribute to any of the five people in the rear, including Andre.
“I believe that for a young player, Katie also gave a fantastic performance. His position, the effort he put into the game, and his bravery in playing on the ball against a very strong and pressing squad are all quite impressive. He gave us so much and was fantastic on the ball.
“I believe it was crucial for us that Antho was forward. Sometimes his work on holding the ball, making runs to open up space for others, and, in my opinion, even more work on Marcus after the goal, goes unnoticed.
“When he entered the last third, he provided us so much—he allowed the team to catch air, earned some fouls, and everything else.
I’ll let them make the decision because it’s tough. Garnacho will receive it because he scored a fantastic goal.
Fernandes quipped that Garnacho had been viewing too many clips of his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, when he was asked how his spectacular effort compared to all the goals he had ever seen firsthand.
The midfielder from Portugal continued, saying, “It’s incredible, something beyond this world, I believe.”
It’s likely that he is consuming too many Cristiano videos! He is, as we all know, a huge fan. He still has a long way to go before he can match Cristiano, but he is making progress.
“I believe he has what it takes to be something special in the football world, but he needs to go above and beyond that goal!”
