Calciomercato reports that Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat may depart the team in the summer of 2020 in light of Kobbie Mainoo’s rise to prominence.
Over the summer, there was a lot of conjecture surrounding the Moroccan. After “a long and exhausting” saga, United signed him on loan despite a number of clubs showing interest in him.
The €10 million short-term contract was paid by the Red Devils. They have the option to purchase him for €25 million, but Mainoo’s breakthrough, according to Calciomercato, makes that less clear.
Amrabat has been “struggling beyond expectations,” and after a brilliant full league debut, Mainoo is thought to be able to hold down his starting position for the upcoming games.
Amrabat brought a lot of excitement to United when he first joined this season, but if he can’t turn things around, he may wind up back in Florence.
Amrabat has had tough introduction to English football
The 27-year-old was heavily favored to face off against Casemiro for the number six position, but manager Erik ten Hag has ruled him out of the running for a starting spot.
Due to Casemiro’s injury, Scott McTominay was selected for the starting lineup. Amrabat remains on the United bench despite more injuries to Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen.
After suffering a knee injury that interfered with his preseason, Mainoo is totally healed. The young player performed admirably for the majority of the summer, so his choice does not come as a surprise.
Amrabat, who at the World Cup was referred to as “world-class” by Morocco manager Walid Regragui, is now in a difficult position because Mainoo is ahead of him in the hierarchy.
Given that Casemiro, Eriksen, and Mount all anticipated to be healthy and available for United in the second half of the season, things might only get worse for him as the season goes on.
Amrabat still has time to leave his mark, but whether or not he does so remains to be seen as the key question. Ten Hag usually favors a stable midfield duo.
