Pep Guardiola’s surprising answer when asked by reporters about the future

Following the expiration of his contract in 2025, Pep Guardiola has stated he is thinking about continuing as Manchester City’s manager. Although reports have indicated that Guardiola intended to depart the team after his contract expired, he told reporters, “One and a half years is a lot of time in football.” The 52-year-old has so far had a very fruitful seven years at City.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has hinted that he would be willing to stay with the team into 2025.

In November 2022, the 52-year-old agreed to a two-year contract deal that would keep him at City through the end of the 2024–2025 campaign.

Guardiola stated differently prior to City’s match against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, which is shown live on TNT Sports. The Guardian had earlier claimed that Guardiola is expected to quit the team when his contract expires.

The Spanish player was questioned about if the current transition in City’s lineup—Jeremy Doku, Josko Gvardiol, and Matheus Nunes taking the places of Riyad Mahrez and departing Ilkay Gundogan this season—would entice him to stay with the team.

“I’m energized. I won’t respond,” Guardiola declared. “In football, a year and a half is a long time. I had long hair before I came here, and look what happened.”

In response to a question about whether his current contract may be extended, Guardiola said, “Yeah of course-can leave tomorrow [too].”I would have delighted for the squad that finished with 100 points [during the 2017–18 season] to be around forever. This occurs at every club.”

Guardiola has had an extraordinarily successful seven years at City after joining from Bayern Munich in 2016.

In addition to five Premier League titles, he has managed two FA Cups, four League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and two League Cups.

Last season, City won the Champions League for the first time, and they’ve had a strong start to their championship defense this year. They have already qualified for the knockout stages after winning four of their four group stage games.

Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and Nunes are all questionable for the Bundesliga team’s visit, and Kevin De Bruyne is still sidelined due to a hamstring issue.

Guardiola responded to De Bruyne’s recent statement to media that he will be returning “close after the New Year.”

“If he [De Bruyne] said ‘January’ it will be January,” he stated. Everyone will have a joyful new year if he says, “end of December or the new year.”
