Since April, Jurgen Klopp has changed Liverpool’s lineup to better utilize the Englishman’s abilities. When the Reds are in possession, the 25-year-old moves into midfield; when defending, he assumes his former position. In Saturday night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad, he tied the score with a long-range shot into the bottom corner from outside the area.

Van Dijk stated, “It’s about mixing it up,” as reported by The Athletic. “We’ve been doing it since April, and I believe we had a great run of performance. He and we are both still learning and changing to fit different circumstances. The city is doing a great job of having a solid plan, and we are also becoming better and better at that. We can only gain from this new dimension, but we’re still working on it.”

He went on, “I don’t know if that’s for the coaches that work with him.” “At the moment, he’s playing perfectly where he is. He is free to experiment, and he needs to since you can sometimes see teams figuring things out, so he must be able to move from the outside in to the inside as well.”

He’s going through a decent learning curve as well, and on Saturday, he performed admirably considering that he was up against one of the best wingers in the league right now in Jeremy Doku. Therefore, it is crucial that he score the goal and that he intercepts.

In recent England internationals, Alexander-Arnold has taken on a more conventional midfield role; however, Van Dijk has said that he has no immediate plans to replicate that at the club level.

On Thursday, November 30, when Liverpool plays LASK in the Europa League, the two defenders will next be in action.
