Former Nigerian President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was a poor lad who rose from nothing to owning a large villa

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his fourth wife, Jennifer Douglas, co-owned a magnificent property in Potomac, Maryland, which was auctioned off. When the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) investigated the property in 2005 in conjunction with a bribery investigation involving former U.S. Congressman William Jefferson, it drew international notice.

On January 25, 2018, this seven-bedroom, cream-colored, single-family brick house at 9731 Sorrel Ave, Potomac, Maryland, was listed for $3.25 million on several internet real estate platforms. Following an online auction, it was eventually sold for a pending offer of $2.95 million on February 26, 2018.

A pending offer indicates that a buyer and seller have reached an agreement, but the transaction could still fall through if they are unable to settle concerns such as repair expenses or acquire a bank financing for the acquisition, which is highly improbable.

In December 1999, Atiku and his wife paid $1.75 million for the 7,131-square-foot mansion. The property, which was built in 1988, was characterized on Zillow as one of the finest residences in the posh community of Falconhurst, Potomac, where homes range in value from $2 million to $10 million.

The Atiku mansion is a colonial-style structure set on 2.3 acres of lush green forests. The home has 21 rooms, several terraces for outdoor parties, a pool sauna, a gazebo, a gourmet kitchen, and an outdoor swimming pool.

Sources familiar with the situation of the mansion, who requested anonymity because they did not want to be publicly identified with this story, stated that the Atikus had not lived in the mansion since the politician left the vice presidency in 2007.
