At Manchester United, Erik ten Hag is still dealing with a long injury list.
The Dutchman has frequently been short of choices in defense, but Ten Hag is presently without a number of midfielders due to injury, including Mason Mount, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen.
Luke Shaw returned in the win over Everton to give United a much-needed boost, and Andre Onana is also fit to start, but the club’s medical staff is still very busy.
Here’s the latest Manchester United injury news and projected return dates ahead of a busy schedule…
Rasmus Hojlund
Rasmus Hojlund missed the triumph over Everton owing to a hamstring injury suffered against Luton earlier this month.
It is not thought to be a significant problem, and Ten Hag’s comments after the game at Goodison Park suggested Hojlund may face Galatasaray in midweek.
“It was a close finish for today but we have a couple of days now to have players back, we need them as Rashford is suspended against Galatasaray,” United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said.
Possible return date: November 29 against Galatasaray
Mason Mount
Mason Mount has endured a terrible first season at Old Trafford, and he is once again facing a stint on the sidelines.
The midfielder is out with a calf injury and might be out for up to a month, leaving him out of a rematch with Chelsea on December 6.
Possible return date: December 17 against Liverpool.
Casemiro
Casemiro was ruled out for “several weeks” after suffering a hamstring injury in his first appearance for the club in a month against Newcastle earlier this month.
He had previously been dealing with an ankle injury sustained while on international duty with Brazil.
Ten Hag has reiterated that he does not expect Casemiro to return before Christmas, with a return in early 2024 being the most likely conclusion.
Possible return date: January 20, 2024
Christian Eriksen
After withdrawing from Denmark’s squad for the last international break, Manchester United revealed that Christian Eriksen will be absent for four weeks.
The 31-year-old was forced out in the first half against Luton with a knee injury and now faces a battle to be fit for United’s trip to Liverpool before Christmas.
Possible return date: December 17 against Liverpool.
Lisandro Martinez
Lisandro Martinez was watching his teammates practice at Carrington last week while recovering from a foot injury.
The defender has not played since United’s loss to Bayern Munich in September, when he worsened an injury he sustained at the conclusion of last season.
Martinez, like Casemiro, will not return before Christmas, but his return in January could provide a significant boost.
Possible return date: January 20, 2024
Antony
Antony was completely absent from the squad for the weekend triumph over Everton.
The Brazilian had a knock in training before of the encounter and was ruled out, but it is not a major issue and he could return soon.
Possible return date: November 29 against Galatasaray
Jonny Evans
Jonny Evans played barely 13 minutes for Manchester United in their Champions League loss to Copenhagen before being substituted, his first appearance in the league in a decade.
It has already been reported that the 35-year-old had a thigh strain earlier this month, when he was expected to miss a “few weeks.”
There has been no more update since, but that first schedule suggests he is not far away from returning.
Possible return date: December 6th, vs. Chelsea.
Tyrell Malacia
Tyrell Malacia has yet to play this season, with United remaining tight-lipped regarding the nature of the left-back’s injury.
According to reports, Malacia suffered a knee injury near the end of last season and underwent surgery to correct the condition, with his recovery progressing.
The club has not released a recent update, although Malacia is expected to be engaged again before the end of the year.
Date of possible return: December 2023
Amad Diallo
A knee injury has kept Amad Diallo out of action so far this season, as it has Malacia.
Ten Hag has not indicated that a return is near, despite social media posts indicating that the 21-year-old is pushing up his recovery.
Possible return date: N/A
