Though there are still a lot of injury concerns for Chelsea, there is hope that Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku will be back playing soon.

Chelsea will meet Brighton in the Premier League this weekend in an attempt to recover from their poor performance against Newcastle. The Blues’ run of victories in every competition came to an end on Saturday at St. James’ Park as they were soundly defeated by the Magpies.

Due to one-match suspensions, Marc Cucurella and Reece James will not be available for Mauricio Pochettino’s team to play against Roberto De Zerbi’s team. Chelsea supporters, though, are optimistic that Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku will be included in the matchday squad this coming weekend.

Despite incurring an injury during the summer, Nkunku—who cost Chelsea approximately £52 million—did not make his competitive debut for the team until after joining from RB Leipzig. The 26-year-old attacker has not played since suffering a blow to his knee in a preseason match against Borussia Dortmund in the United States.

Regarding Nkunku and Lavia’s recuperation, Pochettino said: “It’s difficult say [when Nkunku and Lavia will be back] because we need to assess them day by day. They are in a good condition.

“Nkunku a little ahead of Lavia. He was doing things with the group last week, still not fully recovered to be part of the squad.”

Lavia hasn’t made his Blues debut yet and has been dealing with an ankle injury ever since moving to Stamford Bridge. The teenage midfield player’s recuperation suffered a significant setback last month, delaying his comeback until December.

The Evening Standard reports that Nkunku has been working out on his own and may be ready to play Brighton; Lavia is also still hoping to make the match. While it’s true that neither player would be expected to start or play a lot of minutes as they continue to heal and hone their skills, this would be a significant lift for the Blues as they try to go back to winning ways.
