Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo is fit to play Galatasaray in the Champions League group stage meeting at Rams Park on Wednesday.

Over the weekend, the Red Devils defeated Everton 3-0 in the Premier League. It was their first league victory by more than one goal this season.

In the same game, Mainoo made his full Premier League debut for the club. The kid was one of the standout performers, clearing the goal line crucially.

During today’s press conference, Ten Hag was asked if Mainoo would restart, to which the Dutchman said affirmatively (via Manutd.com):

“If they are good enough, they are old enough. We are very pleased with the performance [at Everton], but it’s one performance and you have to do it on a consistent base.”

“Kobbie is so mature, [but] you are only good as your last game. Keep your focus on the game. You have to focus on your game, your performance and get the right levels in.

“When we observe, if a player is moving away from football and getting distracted, we will tell them.”

Mainoo set to start in holding midfield vs Galatasaray

The teenager had a fantastic preseason with United. He was outstanding in the 2-0 victory over Arsenal. He made an assist, won all of his duels, and had a 95% passing accuracy.

Mainoo was given another start against Real Madrid, but he just lasted two minutes before suffering a bizarre knee injury as a result of Casemiro’s push on Rodrygo.

As a result, the United graduate was sidelined for several months, but he has returned in time for the holiday season. Last Saturday, Mainoo put in an outstanding performance against the Toffees.

He won five duels and was particularly effective in the box, blocking one shot and clearing the goalline. He has earned the right to start the forthcoming game in Istanbul, in our opinion.

As Ten Hag stated, Mainoo must concentrate on his upcoming task. If he can put on another strong performance, he has a decent chance of becoming a regular defensive midfielder.
