Chelsea will demand at least €25 million for Real Madrid target, Kepa Arrizabalaga

Fichajes reports that Chelsea are keen to sell 29-year-old goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for €25 million. Following Thibaut Courtois’s injury earlier in the season, the Spaniard joined Real Madrid on loan; he is still eager to complete a permanent transfer there.

In the summer, Chelsea desired to assess their goalkeeping situation, as Mauricio Pochettino was enthusiastic about a change. Following Edouard Mendy’s departure to Saudi Arabia, the New Orleans Saints considered adding a competitor to Kepa Arrizabalaga’s starting lineup, and they ultimately decided to do so in the form of Robert Sanchez.

Kepa was presented with an opportunity immediately thereafter, when Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid was sidelined with a potentially season-ending, long-term injury. The Spanish champions acquired the 29-year-old Chelsea player on loan; he was already prepared to reduce his salary in order to join them permanently.

It is unknown whether Real Madrid is considering the same thing, but it has been suggested that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is unwilling to pay a premium for the 29-year-old. According to one report, Chelsea are only willing to pay approximately €10 million or a marginal premium for the player. This information might disappoint the Blues.

Chelsea have now set an asking price of €25 million for the 29-year-old Real Madrid target, whose contract will expire next summer. Even at that sum, it is significantly less than the €80 million that Chelsea spent years ago to acquire him from Athletic Club.

It has been reported that Real Madrid would contemplate signing Kepa, but would a permanent transfer be detrimental to the club? When Courtois returns from injury the following season, the Spaniard will likely be relegated to a supporting role; if he does indeed contract with the club, it will mean the demise of the club’s current backup goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin.

Regarding Kepa, Chelsea sees no future for him. Already in the process of finding a new goalkeeper, individuals such as Aaron Ramsdale are on their shortlist. Due to the fact that Mikel Arteta has designated David Raya as his undisputed No. 1 for the foreseeable future, the Arsenal star may depart next summer.

Kepa’s desire to join Real Madrid is sincere, but he will serve no more than a supporting function for the club in the long run, owing to Courtois. There are doubts as to whether Real Madrid will pay the asking price of €25 million for a reserve goalkeeper with one year remaining on his contract.
