Andre Onana was seen slamming his gloves to the ground in disgust after the final whistle of Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Galatasaray, as a result of his errors, which have left the club’s Champions League ambitions hanging by a thread.
The night had started off perfectly in the difficult Istanbul circumstances, with Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes putting Erik ten Hag’s side up 2-0 early on.
The Cameroonian, however, was to blame for the home team’s response before the interval when he failed to respond to Hakim Ziyech’s free-kick.
United took the lead again in the 55th minute thanks to Scott McTominay’s score, but Onana would be punished once more by Ziyech’s left-footed ball, this time completely fluffing a weak attempt from the Moroccan only minutes later.
Soon after, Galatasaray equalized when Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu blasted in from a tight angle.
After the referee called time, Onana, who has now been responsible for more errors leading to goals in the competition than any other goalkeeper since the 2018-29 season, displayed his disappointment.
As he grabbed these items from behind the goal, the 27-year-old could be seen flinging his gloves on the ground and tearing at his jersey.
The missed points might cost United a lot of money. The team currently finds itself at the bottom of Group A, needing a win versus Bayern Munich at Old Trafford to advance to the knockout stages.
Even so, Ten Hag’s team will have to settle for a draw in the last matchday between Galatasaray and Copenhagen next month.
