Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has urged fans to make Thursday’s Europa League group-stage match against LASK at Anfield a “special night” as his team looks to qualify for the knockout rounds.
Liverpool leads Group E with nine points from four games, two more than Toulouse, who they defeated 3-2 earlier this month. Union Saint Gilloise is third with four points, one more than last-placed LASK.
A win vs LASK would guarantee Liverpool’s progression to the last 16 and put them in first place in the group.
“We are at the start of the most intense period of the season.” We play now from Thursday to Sunday, and it’s quite difficult,” Klopp told reporters on Wednesday. “… what we need tomorrow is an atmosphere.”
“We have to make this a European night, and that is what I expect us to do – a proper European night at Anfield, really going for it.” I’ll put up a team with fresh legs who want to go for it, enjoy the game, and battle hard for a win.
“If Anfield wants to do that as well, that would be enormously beneficial.” We have to demonstrate that Anfield is both a magnificent and a terrible location to visit at the same time.”
Liverpool will be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker and winger Diogo Jota, both of whom were injured in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
“They’re both out. “With Alisson, it’s a little less, so we’ll see,” Klopp remarked.
“He’s not going to play tomorrow or Sunday, probably not next week, then he might be OK, but Diogo will take a little longer.” We don’t know how long, but it’s a little more serious.”
Klopp went on to suggest that Caoimhin Kelleher will take Alisson’s place in goal, saying, “He would have played anyway and deserves his opportunity to get a few more games and hopefully he can show his full potential.”
