Inter Miami fans are ‘upset’ that Messi has signed with the club

Several Miami fans have spoken out against the club’s treatment of supporters after Lionel Messi signed with the squad, according to The Guardian.

“What made Inter Miami special early on was we had a great supporter group and ownership was really close with the fans,” one supporter said.

“It’s different now. It’s gone from a family atmosphere to a professional atmosphere, which you’d expect. We were a young club and we grew up overnight.”

“It’s priced out a lot of people. That’s been a tough pill to swallow. People are very upset about it,” another fan stated.

David Beckham, Jorge, and Jose Mas co-founded Inter Miami in 2018. South Florida has underachieved since its start, failing to make a significant effect on the league.

However, in 2022, the Herons finished sixth on the table, punching their ticket to the playoffs.

Unfortunately, that form could not be replicated in early 2023.

The Messi Effect

It’s awful that fans have been priced out, but before Messi joined the club, Miami was nowhere near winning a championship.

Due to its bad administration, the club was frequently derided and became the punchline of countless jokes. Inter Miami has risen to the top of world football thanks to Messi and seems primed to compete for the MLS Cup in 2024.

The tiny, family-like atmosphere of pre-Messi days has vanished, and some supporters are rightly dissatisfied. Hopefully, the team can mend fences with disgruntled fans.

As the year 2024 approaches, it is critical that the organization mend its relationship with the fans.
