Galatasaray’s first goal against Manchester United should NOT have stood’ due to an ambiguous rule

Manchester United’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League were severely harmed after Galatasaray rallied back to tie the game at 3-3, owing in part to an opening goal that should not have stood.

The visitors took a two-goal lead twice, the first time through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes, but Hakim Ziyech equalized before the break.

In the 55th minute, Scott McTominay scored ahead of Ziyech’s second and Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu’s thunderbolt.

However, beIN Sports claims that the hosts’ opening strike should not have been granted according to a little-known law.

As the ex-Chelsea winger went up to take the free-kick, the Turkish side had two men in front of the United wall.

Galatasaray’s goal, however, should have been disallowed due to its proximity to the wall (reportedly 61 centimetres).

According to the outlet, if the defensive team has three or more players in the wall, all attacking players must be at least a metre away.

For his second goal in the second half, the Moroccan took advantage of a mistake by United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Erik ten Hag’s side is now bottom of Group A, with only one game remaining. They have the enormous task of defeating Bayern Munich at Old Trafford while hoping for a favorable result in the other game.
