Mount suffered another injury just before the end of the November international break, putting him out for the time being. United boss Erik ten Hag prioritized signing the England international during the summer to add energy and inventiveness.

Ten Hag used Mount in a deeper role, as opposed to the offensive role he played at Chelsea. The 24-year-old started the opening two games of the season before suffering an injury in August against Tottenham Hotspur.

Mount returned from his initial injury following the September international break, but he failed to make an impact. This season, the Englishman has only played a full 90-minute game for the Red Devils.

Mason Mount foiled by Ten Hag's 'unforeseen dilemma' at Man Utd

In United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle United at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old played the entire game. Despite dominating possession over the Magpies, Mount failed to pose a threat to the home team. Furthermore, Timo Livramento humiliated the former Chelsea player after easily defeating him and assisted on the opening goal.

Meanwhile, Amrabat joined the team on a season-long loan from Fiorentina on deadline day. Morocco international joined the club while recovering from an injury, making a late substitute appearance against Burnley in September.

Ten Hag has used Amrabat as a left-back substitute as well as in his preferred position as a defensive midfielder. However, with lackluster performances, the 27-year-old has failed to justify his position as a starting midfielder.

Amrabat, like Mount, slid down the pecking order and has only appeared as a substitute for the Red Devils. Over the Morocco international, the United manager has used in-form players such as Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo.

According to the Guardian, United are looking to add a new number 8 to their midfield. United’s season has been considerably affected by the failures of both Amrabat and Mount, and they cannot afford to continue in this manner.

United are now without Christian Eriksen and Casemiro owing to injury. The crowded December date could provide adequate possibilities for both Amrabat and Mount to restore their United careers. Mount’s current ailment, on the other hand, has cast doubt on his expected comeback date.
