According to reports, Manchester City have moved their attention to Bayern Munich player Serge Gnabry after dropping their interest in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta.
Man City were close to acquiring Paqueta in the summer, but the FA launched an investigation into the Brazilian international in connection with a betting scandal.
Paqueta has continued to play for West Ham as usual, albeit there have been reports that Man City may make a new bid for him.
However, FootballTransfers has discovered that Manchester City has begun to change their focus to an alternate deal for a player with distinct traits.
The Premier League champions have been linked with Bayern winger Serge Gnabry instead of Paqueta.
According to the source, Man City have’significant interest’ in the Germany international and may pursue him’more seriously’ now that the Paqueta concept has been abandoned.
This is despite the fact that Paqueta and Gnabry play contrasting roles, with the West Ham player operating more centrally than the Bayern man.
Gnabry has a contract with Bayern until 2026 and has made 228 appearances, 82 goals, and 51 assists for the club.
He previously played in the Premier League for Arsenal in the start of his career, as well as an infamously catastrophic loan spell with West Bromwich Albion.
Gnabry has made a joke of his former experience in English football since returning to his homeland, establishing himself as a high-quality, Champions League-level player.
So far, this season has been a bit of a slog for him. His ten outings in all competitions have been spaced out by hip issues, a forearm fracture, and illness.
However, even at the age of 28, Gnabry is still an enticing player when he is on form, so it is not surprising that a team as ambitious as the reigning triple winners would be interested in him.
Man City have been impressed by summer addition Jeremy Doku on the wings, but they may be looking for another player in similar territory, possibly to play on the opposite flank.
Gnabry is adaptable enough to play a variety of attacking roles, which might increase his attractiveness, particularly if Pep Guardiola employs a fluid style.
Guardiola may end up attacking his former club – which he left before signing Gnabry – in an attempt to offer the attacker a second shot in the Premier League.
It is unclear what the asking price for Gnabry will be, but Bayern is unlikely to give him up without a battle.
