Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Mohamed Salah, and Mary Earps are among the candidates for the Fans’ Footballer of the Year award this year.
Last year, over 60,000 supporters participated, with Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes taking first place. After starring in England’s women’s Euros win, Lionesses star Beth Mead finished third, with Bukayo Saka and Haaland rounding out the top five.
Guimaraes, however, is not among this year’s 12 player shortlist, which includes stars from both the men’s and women’s games who have been nominated by journalists.
Salah, a Liverpool player, has previously won the award twice, in 2021 and 2022, and will be vying for a third time after another strong season. Manchester City is well-represented on the shortlist following their historic treble triumph last season, with Haaland heading the way following his incredible run of success in front of goal.
Haaland is joined by teammates Rodri and John Stones, both of whom played important parts in City’s victories. Saka joins his new Arsenal teammate Declan Rice, who has impressed so far at the Emirates after captaining West Ham to victory in the Europa Conference League.
The final two Premier League players on the list are Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, both of whom have played important parts in their respective clubs’ sustained climbs.
Outside of the Premier League, Bellingham has been nominated for his outstanding start at Real Madrid. Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who joined Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich this summer, is also on the list.
After impressing in both the Women’s Super League and the Women’s World Cup, England and Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps has been shortlisted with Chelsea striker Sam Kerr.
