How should Man United line up against Newcastle in Premier League?

Manchester United will play their third away game in a row when they travel to Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.

United will travel to St. James’ Park for the Saturday night kick-off, looking to rebound from a 3-3 draw with Galatasaray in the Champions League earlier in the week.

United’s chances of moving from their Champions League group have been shattered by the defeat in Istanbul, but the players must regroup against a Newcastle side that was unlucky not to overcome Paris Saint-Germain.

In terms of team news, Marcus Rashford will be available after missing the game against Galatasaray owing to a suspension, while Mason Mount is anticipated to miss it again.

Ten Hag’s recalls were mostly justified in midweek, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is better suited to deal with Anthony Gordon. Despite Raphael Varane’s lack of preparation for this game, the prospect of staying with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first back four appears untenable. Victor Lindelof will most likely get the start.

Kobbie Mainoo must play in midfield because United require a ball-retaining midfielder. Mainoo was written in Istanbul’s lion’s lair, therefore anything else isn’t as intimidating.

Antony had one of his best performances for United in midweek, and the front four should not change just because Marcus Rashford is back.

It might be argued that United played some excellent football in midweek and were only let down by individual blunders. The fact that it has occurred so frequently indicates that there are larger issues at hand.

Onana has to be supported rather than dropped in order to regain confidence, and Wan-Bissaka would be a good decision against the in-form Anthony Gordon. Varane should start ahead of Lindelof, as has been the case for several weeks.

Mainoo is deserved another chance to prove his worth, but there isn’t much room for change in central midfield. Antony showed significant improvement in Turkey, and Rashford does not deserve to start matches on merit.

You may argue that Onana should be benched for this game, but Bayindir does not appear to be a viable substitute, and benching the Cameroon international could exacerbate the situation.

Onana needs to recover, and Varane needs to return to the team in front of him. Mainoo is a better midfielder than Amrabat, and the teenager should start in the North East.

Despite being better in midweek, Antony should make way for Rashford, with Garnacho continuing on the left.
