During the first half of Manchester United’s trip to Newcastle, Erik ten Hag and Anthony Marital got into a heated argument, and the Red Devils were once again frustrated by their opponent.
At St. James’ Park, the Red Devils were hoping to recover from their defeat in Europe by taking on the fierce Magpies. Ten Hag also made four changes to his starting lineup, substituting Marcus Rashford and Marks for Antony and Rasmus Hojlund, respectively.
But after engaging in a verbal altercation with the Frenchman in the first half, Ten Hag may have been second-guessing his choice. A video of the two locking horns and doing a lot of “arm waving” surfaced.
The Dutchman hooked Martial in the 60th minute, and during his hour on the field, the forward was unable to muster a single effort. It has already been three seasons since the Frenchman did not play all ninety minutes for the Red Devils.
Rashford and Martial were substituted at the same moment, and Ten Hag reverted to his striking duo that he had set up in Turkey. The Red Devils lost 1-0 that evening, but it wasn’t enough.
Ten Hag said: “27 years old and playing for your career. I’m scratching my head why his [Martial] energy levels are so low.”
