The Reds were coming off a 1-1 tie at Manchester City, while the Blues had lost their previous two games, a 4-4 draw with City and a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United.
Mohamed Salah thought he had scored Liverpool’s 200th goal as early as the ninth minute, but he was flagged offside.
However, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who equalized against City, blasted a spectacular free kick into the top right corner in the 20th minute to put the Reds ahead.
Bernd Leno’s goal was later ruled an own goal because the ball ricochet back against the crossbar and onto the Fulham goalkeeper before crossing the line.

Fulham did not give up and equalized in first-half stoppage time when Kenny Tete finished with a low shot inside the box, and the goal was allowed after a lengthy VAR review.
Darwin Nunez of Liverpool squandered two wonderful second-half scoring chances, and the Reds were punished in the 81st minute when Bobby De Cordova-Reid headed in from a cross to make it 3-2.
Wataru Endo, a substitute, equalized for the Reds from beyond the box in the 87th minute, but Alexander-Arnold blasted another amazing goal and the victory just a minute later, also from range.
In the 17th minute, Benoit Badiashile found Enzo Fernandez, who showed determination to get to the ball and head into the back of the net at Stamford Bridge.
Only four minutes later, Levi Colwill made it 2-0 with a looping header off a Nicolas Jackson feed.
In the 43rd minute, Facundo Buonanotte scored with a controlled shot from within the box after collecting a ball from Adam Lallana.
Chelsea’s woes grew shortly before halftime, when Conor Gallagher was sent off for a second yellow card.
However, after a VAR review, Mauricio Pochettino’s squad was awarded a penalty after the half, and Fernandez scored his second goal from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute.
Brighton added a second goal in stoppage time, but Chelsea held on to secure all three points.
Earlier in the day, the FA Cup draw pitted eight-time champions Liverpool against 14-time winners Arsenal in a third-round match in January, while Newcastle United and Sunderland clashed at The Stadium of Light.
Holders Manchester City will host Huddersfield Town, while Manchester United will travel to Wigan Athletic, the 2013 winners.
Chelsea will play Preston North End at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham Hotspur host Burnley, Crystal Palace host Everton, and Brentford host Wolverhampton Wanderers in all-Premier League matches.
