Steve Bruce has raised an old topic for Manchester United by criticizing the body language displayed by misfiring forward Marcus Rashford.
Last season, the 26-year-old scored 30 goals in all competitions for Manchester United. However, the England player has had a difficult start to the season, at least for his team. Rashford has only scored twice in 18 outings overall. One of those came from the penalty spot, and he looked disappointed in Saturday night’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle.
Jermaine Jenas, a TV analyst, criticized Rashford for his demeanor in that game, claiming the forward’s body language was’sending a message to his management almost like “I don’t want to play out here.” And now Bruce, who captained United before becoming manager of Newcastle, has a similar issue.
Both men, however, admit Rashford was not the only guilty party at St. James’ Park. “I think it was poor, I think his body language was shocking throughout the game, I really do,” Jenas, a TNT Sports analyst, remarked. “There have been too many moments like this, throwing his arms about.”
In response to the same question, Bruce told Stadium Astro, “Application is the most important thing for me.” Some of the players’ body language was inappropriate.
“We’ve talked about it, and the first one you look at is [Rashford].” When you compare how terrific he was last season and for England a few weeks ago to what you witnessed tonight [Saturday night], it’s hard to believe. Is he dissatisfied with his position on the right? “What is the problem?”
“We’re not going to know about that, what happened behind the scenes – if anything happened at all – and when he came off, he showed petulance and wasn’t happy,” Bruce, 62, continued.
“First and foremost, he must examine himself. But it’s not just him; look at the core of the team, and they’ve been annihilated by Newcastle.”
