“I don’t think I ever saw a game with this amount of beautiful goals.”
That’s what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports after his team won their own Goal of the Month competition after a thrilling 4-3 win against Fulham.
Trent Alexander-Arnold started the scoring for Liverpool with a stunning free-kick that ricocheted in off both the crossbar and Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Alexis Mac Allister then sent a long-range attempt into the top corner. In the 87th minute, with Liverpool losing 3-2, Wataru Endo curled in an incredible equalizer.
Alexander-Arnold completed the list of incredible strikes with a clinical finish seconds later in front of a euphoric Anfield crowd.
“Today, we scored four worldies and were lucky in the end to win the game, and that tells you everything,” Klopp told BBC Match of the Day.
“Four goals I have never seen before in one game like this to be honest.”
Fulham boss Marco Silva was perplexed as well.
“It was great, great goals every time,” he said, according to BBC Match of the Day. “That doesn’t happen very often. They scored four fantastic long-range goals.”
Now, Marco, turn away: here’s how the players and experts responded to Liverpool’s strikes.
Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold opened the game with a fantastic free-kick that flew over the wall and dropped just in time to clip the crossbar, bounce down, and strike Leno in the net.
“Technically, I haven’t scored two goals, but I’m going to claim it,” he told BBC Match of the Day. “It’s nice when a free kick sneaks in through the cracks.” If I may say so myself, it was a great strike.”
Even if it was an own goal by Leno, former Liverpool full-back Stephen Warnock called the Reds’ opener “one of the best free-kicks you’ll see this season.”
“My word, what a strike from Alexander-Arnold,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We praised him before the game for his technical abilities, and he has just demonstrated them again here.” This man is a fantastic player.”
Liverpool’s four goals were all spectacular, but their second was undoubtedly the best.
Mac Allister scored his first goal for Liverpool since signing from Brighton in a £35 million move in June.
And he did it with force, arrowing a loose ball into the top corner from 35 yards out.
“When I scored the free-kick, I thought that was the goal of the game,” Alexander-Arnold explained. “But then 20 minutes later Mac Allister goes and scores that outstanding strike.”
“As it pops up, I’m thinking, ‘Don’t hit it!'” Warnock added. I was mistaken. Two of the best goals you’ll see this season in the Premier League.”
Despite Liverpool’s excellent first-half goals, Fulham stayed in the game and gained a 3-2 lead in the 80th minute through Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
The visitors appeared to be on pace to end the Reds’ 13-month unbeaten run at Anfield in the Premier League with three minutes plus stoppage time remaining.
That is, until Endo grabbed onto Mohamed Salah’s pass and curled a wonderful attempt into the top corner.
“What about this finish from Endo?” After the Japan midfielder’s goal, BBC Match of the Day announcer Guy Mowbray exclaimed.
“His first Premier League goal was memorable.” And a tremendously crucial one for Liverpool.”
This season, no team has won more Premier League points from a losing position than Liverpool (15).
Alexander-Arnold completed the comeback two minutes from time when he caught a lofted clearing with his knee and hammered an attempt into the bottom corner.
His calm finish in the midst of a hectic finale concluded a superb individual effort and maintained Liverpool’s flawless home record this season.
The Reds also reduced Arsenal’s Premier League lead to two points.
“An outstanding experience for everyone who was here,” Klopp went on to say. “I don’t think anyone could have predicted before the game that Liverpool vs. Fulham would be a game you will never forget.”
“But you’re welcome.”
