Pep Guardiola compared his third winless Premier League game as Manchester City manager to his first season in charge.
This sequence of ties is the longest City has gone without a win since Guardiola’s first season at the helm, his lone year without a trophy at the Etihad. While the Blues manager feels his squad is performing well, he was obliged to confess that they are struggling to get the results they require following a third game of being pushed back in the league.
City has led against Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham but has surrendered eight goals in those three games – the same number as they had conceded in their previous 11 games combined. That has to be a problem, yet Guardiola prefers to judge his team based on the few chances they give the opponent.
“Tottenham are happy for the point; we are less happy, but our performance is consistent with what we have been doing recently.” People say we’re worried about the goals we give up, but how many chances have we given up? “It’s ridiculous,” he exclaimed.
“We concede nothing, but because of our mistakes and the quality of our opponents, we concede a goal, and it becomes more difficult after that.” Still, there are many games, which is the objective.
“We’re in a situation where it’s happened recently, so let’s challenge that.” wonderful teams aren’t characterized by wonderful things and situations; this isn’t the first time we’ve been in a scenario where we’re playing well but not getting results.
“We always found a solution, but lately we’ve been struggling a little.” I recall the first season when we were playing well but not producing results.
“The only thing I learned as a player and manager is to insist, insist, insist.” And then we’ll see what happens.”
