Long before he got into a fight with Erik ten Hag, Anthony Martial got into a fight with one of his Manchester United teammates.

The Red Devils manager was spotted arguing with the Frenchman from the sidelines after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle during United’s match.

Manager Martial became enraged after he made a pathetic attempt to follow Fabian Schar’s run from deep.

Ten Hag discussed the situation with the 27-year-old after the final siren went off, acknowledging that his touchline theatrics were aimed more at the squad than at Martial.

“It’s not about Anthony Martial, it’s about the team,” he said via the Manchester Evening News. “I try to energise the team and try to get a reaction from the team in this moment.

“As you see, we had a tough period and when you’re coaching you are a little more aggressive, so that’s normal.”

But this isn’t the first time Martial has been into a heated argument.

The forward and academy product Dan Gore got into a fight on the training field last season, according to reports.

Several young players from the academy, including Gore, who was eighteen, were called up to make up the numbers during training prior to the World Cup in Qatar.

To try to avoid any unintended injuries, every player was told not to challenge members of the first team.

But Gore disregarded his manager’s advice, clattering into Martial and setting off an enraged altercation between the two, according to The Mirror.

Martial reportedly retaliated violently, but the adolescent didn’t back down, and before training was halted, the two had to be split off.

The question is whether Martial will get another start when United plays Chelsea in the Premier League the following week. Rasmus Hojlund, a recent addition, is still yet to score in the league.
