Manchester United Legend Slams Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Not Signing Erling Haaland: ‘We’ve Been Paying Over the Odds’

It would not be an exaggeration to argue that Manchester United is digging a rabbit hole. The team is rushing from pillar to post, signing players that aren’t worth the effort. Aside from the growing dissatisfaction of supporters, even former players are scratching their heads over the club’s decisions over the years. This time, it’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is being chastised by a former teammate for failing to sign Erling Haaland.

The Premier League’s most successful club is looking for solutions to its weaknesses. Despite spending over $600 million in the last five years, the organization has yet to find that one player who can turn things around.

Former striker believes Erling Haaland could have played for Manchester United

The Red Devils have yet to form a cohesive squad. Despite spending so much money on players, they all seem to leave the club sooner or later. However, one of the club’s icons, Dwight Yorke, chastised previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for failing to secure the signing of Erling Haaland. Yorke told the Manchester Evening News, “I think we missed the boat with Haaland.” According to what I know, Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] had a chance to sign him. We could have gone out there and overpaid. We’ve been paying more than we should.”

The team had a chance to sign the Norwegian, according to the sacked boss. However, the owners dismissed the plan and did not provide the former athlete with the necessary backing. The club’s former player and coach had previously managed Haaland at Molde.

Yorke, on the other hand, thought that United did not make every effort to sign such a player. The former striker was also perplexed by their excessive expenditure. This summer, the club spent $92.5 million on players like Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester United is suffering as a result of ineffective transfer investment

In comparison to prior expenditures, United was quite quiet throughout the last window. The club did not get enough power in the middle after adding Hojlund and Mason Mount. With repeated injuries, last year’s Real Madrid signing has failed this season. Mount, on the other hand, and the Danish star both failed to open the scoring in the Premier League.

Even their new goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has conceded some simple goals. The team is now seventh in the Premier League. The squad is on the verge of qualifying for this season’s UEFA Champions League, with a required win in the final game and a draw in the other group game between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
