According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool sensation Mohamed Salah might be the target of Saudi Pro League interest from Al Hilal during the 2024 summer transfer window at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has been reluctant to discuss the potential of arguably the Reds’ biggest star leaving the club since September, but the gossip mill is set to start spinning again in the coming weeks.
Since his arrival on Merseyside in the summer of 2017, Salah has established himself as a Liverpool legend, having won nearly every major trophy available over the last six years. However, the wide forward may believe that the riches given by some of Saudi Arabia’s biggest clubs may be too tempting to pass up in 2024.
Saudi interest in Salah
When Liverpool announced Salah’s arrival from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, neither the club nor the player expected him to become one of the club’s all-time greats.
However, during his time at Anfield, the 31-year-old’s goalscoring prowess has helped the team win the Champions League, Premier League, team World Cup, FA Cup, Super Cup, Carabao Cup, and Community Shield. However, during the 2023 summer transfer window, Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad devised a strategy to recruit Salah to the Middle East.
Liverpool rejected an initial £150 million bid from the reigning Saudi champions in September, with some sources speculating that the deal could have been increased to £215 million. When asked shortly after the window closed whether he expected to see Salah during the winter transfer window, Klopp responded (via MailOnline):
“Are you sure you can’t wait until December to ask these questions?” We’ll see what happens, but I’m not worried about it right now. I hadn’t even considered it until you reopened the wound. “I’m not concerned.”
The Egypt international has not let speculation about his future detract from his outstanding performances at Anfield, having scored 20 goals in 20 appearances prior to Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United on December 6th. As rumors about Salah’s future grows, Jacobs just told GIVEMESPORT (November 22nd) that the Reds and Salah could hold talks in 2024.
