Manchester United is allegedly interested in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ahead of the January transfer season.

Since joining the Rossoneri from Lille in the summer of 2021, the 28-year-old has established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, making 85 appearances.

Maignan and his teammates have had a decent start to the season, with Stefano Pioli’s men now in third place and six points behind league leaders Inter Milan.

Former PSG youth has just surpassed Hugo Lloris as France’s first-choice goalkeeper, gaining 13 caps since making his debut in May 2019.

According to Foot Mercato, a number of high-profile European clubs are interested in signing goalie Maignan in the near future.

According to the source, the Frenchman is garnering interest from his nation, England, and Spain, with PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea, and 14-time European winners Real Madrid keeping an eye on his position.

Maignan’s current contract with Milan expires in the summer of 2026, but AC and the goalkeeper are actively negotiating new terms.

After an excellent season for the Rossoneri in 2022-23, the 28-year-old is expecting a big salary boost to reflect his progress since signing from Lille over two years ago.

It is understood that the San Siro club and the player are still at odds in their negotiations, with the talks proving difficult.

In the event that a deal cannot be reached, Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils are among those waiting in the wings to sign Maignan.

A significant part of Manchester United’s summer business was around finding a replacement for goalkeeper David de Gea, who left Old Trafford as a free agent after more than a decade with the Red Devils.

Cameroon international Andre Onana joined United from Inter in July for about £50 million, but the 27-year-old has made some high-profile errors this season.

AC Milan is expected to want around €70 million (£60 million) for the sale of Maignan in the New Year or during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea, led by Mauricio Pochettino, are also thought to be interested in the Frenchman, despite signing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Maignan and his Milan teammates are aware that they must defeat Newcastle United at St James’ Park next Tuesday in order to advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League, but first, the Rossoneri travel to Atalanta BC in Serie A on Saturday.
