Planetfootball site has pointed out 5 former Liverpool players that few people think are unemployed even though they have not announced their retirement.
Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge regularly appears on television.
In fact, it’s no surprise that Sturridge is currently without a club; The striker has not played since leaving Perth Glory in 2022 and appears to be focusing on his blossoming media career.
But that’s still a pity. At 34, Sturridge could be playing in the Championship instead of singing Usher songs to Roy Keane. He is still considered an underrated player in his prime. Daniel Sturridge had memorable years at Liverpool, being in their squad that won the 2019 C1 championship.
Kevin Stewart
Stewart was given his first chance at top-flight football by Jurgen Klopp in February 2016. He made 11 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, but eventually fell out of favor and joined Championship side Hull City.
The holding midfielder has been a consistent performer in the Championship, but injuries have often hampered his progress. After several years with Blackpool, the 30-year-old is now a free agent.
Adam Bogdan
Adam Bogdan doesn’t get to play much at Liverpool.
After several impressive years with Bolton Wanderers, Bogdan joined Liverpool in 2015 when signed by Brendan Rodgers. But he only appeared 6 times for the Red Brigade, often coming off the bench as the club’s reserve goalkeeper. The 36-year-old most recently played for Hungarian club Ferencvaros and is currently a free agent, looking for his next challenge.
Jerome Sinclair
Becoming Liverpool’s youngest player after making his debut at the age of 16 years and six days in September 2012, Sinclair was looking forward to bigger things in the red shirt. But he only made two appearances in the Premier League for The Reds. He signed for Watford in 2016 and spent five years with the Hornets but was repeatedly loaned out, to Birmingham, Sunderland, Oxford, VVV-Venlo and CSKA Sofia before being released from his contract in 2021.
A trial at Oxford was unsuccessful and a permanent contract was not signed, Stewart now appears to have moved away from professional football to own a branch of fried chicken chain Morley’s, although still Has not officially announced his retirement yet.
Tiago Ilori
The Red Brigade spent around £7 million on Illori in 2013 after he impressed at Sporting Lisbon. His career at Anfield was quite short as he only made 3 appearances for the first team.
After playing for Reading in the Championship, the Portuguese defender returned to Sporting in 2019 and spent a significant period on loan. Now 30 years old, Ilori is still hunting for his next club after being released from his contract by Sporting this summer.
