Erik ten Hag praised Manchester United winger Antony following his performance in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils put forth a strong performance to defeat the Blues in the Premier League. Scott McTominay opened the score in the 19th minute, slamming in from close range after Robert Sanchez saved his shot.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer equalized in the 45th minute with a precise finish past Andre Onana. McTominay, on the other hand, scored the game-winning goal for the hosts in the 69th minute, connecting with a header from an Alejandro Garnacho cross.
While McTominay deservedly received all of the attention, Antony also put in a tremendous shift for Manchester United. He played all 90 minutes, making two critical passes, taking two shots, and winning 8/13 ground duels. He also earned a penalty in the ninth minute after being fouled by Enzo Fernandez, but Sanchez saved Bruno Fernandes’ penalty kick.
Ten Hag lauded Antony’s growth and mentality after the game, saying (via Metro):
“I agree; I believe he’s making progress.” This is the mentality he requires.”It’s what he has to offer the squad. He was really bright, he had good ball positions, he made smart judgments, he is stepping up, and he needs to build on this.”
Antony has yet to score for Manchester United in 15 outings across all competitions this season.
