Jamie Carragher asserts that Pep Guardiola is ‘intensely fearful’ of Roy Keane

Pep Guardiola of Manchester City, according to Jamie Carragher, is “terrified” after leaving Roy Keane out of his diatribe about commentators.

Guardiola was not pleased with previous players mentioning complacency as a problem for the treble winners after back-to-back draws against Liverpool and Tottenham.

Guardiola strongly defended his players in his news conference prior of the match against Aston Villa, highlighting Richards and Gary Neville as well as the fact that Carragher never won the Premier League.

“Perhaps I’m wrong and they’re seeing everything I’m not seeing,” he continued, “but I don’t have that feeling.”

“Jamie Carragher did not win a Premier League title.” Micah Richards did not win the Premier League four years in a row. Never, ever, ever.”

Carragher retaliated on X by bringing up the 115 Premier League charges levied against City.

And, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, the Sky Sports commentator expanded on Guardiola’s remarks.

Knowing what was coming, he saw the Catalan press conference as another example of “siege mentality,” similar to his words about “not recognising” his players last season.

He did, however, point out that Guardiola left out Manchester United veteran Roy Keane, which he believes was telling.

“[Pep Guardiola] obviously said what he said [about me] in the press conference, and it was one for the papers that comes out at 10:30 p.m., but I was sent it an hour or two before,” Carragher added.

“I knew it was coming, but I thought it was the siege mentality – go after someone, he said something about the crowd last week.” If you look back to this time last year – I’m not sure if it was the same time – [Manchester City] hosted Tottenham.

“They were losing 2-0 and then winning 4-2, and he came out and yelled at people.” It appears to me that he is concerned about Arsenal, given that he has done so, and that he feels the need to slap everyone on the buttocks.

“The only other thing I noticed is that he must be terrified of [Roy Keane].” He didn’t bring up Roy, did he?”

On Wednesday, City were defeated and outplayed by Aston Villa in a game in which they tried only two shots on goal, the fewest by a Guardiola team.

They also faced a whopping 22 shots, with Leon Bailey’s deflected attempt coming out on top.

City, who have now gone four games without a win, are in fourth position and sorely need to win against Luton Town on Sunday.
