Alisson Becker is set to return from injury against Crystal Palace, according to Jurgen Klopp.

After sustaining a hamstring injury in last month’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City, the Brazil international has missed Liverpool’s last three games. He returned to squad training on Thursday, however, ahead of the Reds’ trip to Selhurst Park.

Liverpool has been plagued by defensive ailments this season, preventing Klopp from fielding a consistent back four. During the current season, Kostas Tsimikas has been the only Reds defensive and goalkeeping option available to play in every matchday squad.

Andy Robertson is still out with a dislocated shoulder, while Joel Matip suffered an ACL injury in last weekend’s 4-3 triumph over Fulham. Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Caoimhin Kelleher have all missed games this season due to injuries, with Conor Bradley only recently returned after a lengthy absence.

While club captain Virgil van Dijk has escaped injury thus far, he did serve a two-game suspension earlier in the season after being sent off against Newcastle United.

Despite Klopp’s forced chopping and changing, Liverpool has the Premier League’s joint-worst defense (tied with Arsenal on 14 goals). Confirming that he would prefer to be able to choose a more consistent back four, the German also revealed that Alisson is back in contention for his side’s trip to Palace.

He did not, however, indicate whether he expects to select the Brazilian or not following the shot-stopper’s recent return to full training on Thursday.

“It would be perfect if we could do that (have a stable back four),” he told reporters. “Ali is a possibility for tomorrow.” I’m not sure if we’ll take it.

“We don’t have much time, but we have enough to talk to Ali and see how he felt after yesterday.” We’ll observe what happens and then make a decision.

“All of the things you can get stable are extremely important in football.” Without a doubt, this gives you the opportunity for consistency. Let’s wait and see.”
