Jurgen Klopp acknowledged Liverpool’s obligation to Mohamed Salah after his teammates gave him with a unique shirt to commemorate his 200th goal for the club.
Salah, 31, scored and set up Harvey Elliott in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, propelling the Reds to the top of the Premier League.
His 76th-minute goal at Selhurst Park makes him only the fifth Liverpool player to reach 200 goals for the club. And Klopp said that he was serenaded by his teammates after the game, emphasizing how important Salah has been over the years.
“Pretty impressive, eh?,” Klopp commented of the feat after the game. “We’d been carrying that shirt for two weeks, and now we could finally give it to him!” To be honest, that was pretty much the greatest moment to score it.
“Amazing number for a super-special, super-super-special player.” I’m not sure how many times he saved us with a goal scored at the proper time.
“When I gave him the shirt with the 200 on the back, he got a pretty loud reception in the locker room.” The players requested a speech, but you’ll have to ask him if he gave one, because I had to go to media job at the time and don’t remember!
“But really, really unique.” I’m overjoyed for him. That’s off the shoulder, because having 199 is probably different from having 198. So we can now go for the next 100.”
After scoring his 200th goal for Liverpool against Crystal Palace, Mohamed Salah was given with a unique shirt by his teammates.
The Reds will finish the weekend top of the Premier League after Arsenal lost to Aston Villa, and Salah feels Liverpool’s new-look squad has what it takes to win the title ahead of the Gunners and Manchester City.
“I see the mentality to keep fighting until the end, and we did that in this game, the last game, and the game before,” he told reporters after Saturday’s game.
“We can take something positive from it.” Of course, we have a new team now, with six or seven new players in the starting lineup. We only need to give them our recommendations. They are learning a lot and are very good individuals that can learn.
“From 2019, I believe there are similarities, but the other guys accomplished a lot, and we must give them credit.” But I’m confident that we can do something remarkable this year.”
