Lionel Messi’s number 10 pink shirt from his club Inter Miami was included in Vogue’s list of trendy products that defined 2023.
“Immediately following the announcement, the generic Inter Miami jersey, in an unexpected shade of un-Barbie pink, sold out, giving rise to a rich bootleg industry,” noted the American fashion magazine. Now, nearly five months later, the official Messi shirt, bearing his number 10, is still on the Adidas website’s wait list in most sizes.”
Messi signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the American club in July of this year and has since taken the country by storm. His shirt is constantly sold out and in short supply due to high demand.
Ticket prices for Inter Miami games have also risen dramatically.
Messi made an immediate impact, helping his club win the League Cup. They won all seven of the tournament’s matches, which included teams from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Leagues Cup was Miami’s first championship in the five years since its inception.
Messi had 11 goals and five assists in 14 games with Miami. Miami also advanced to the National Cup final, but were defeated 1-2 by Houston Dynamo. Due to an injury, the Argentine did not participate in the game.
On October 30, Messi became the first person to win the Ballon d’Or eight times. He was also the first player to win football’s most coveted individual award while playing in the United States.
In 2023, he was named Time’s Athlete of the Year.
