Dwyane Wade recently sold the mansion on a gorgeous freshwater lake where he and his wife have lived for more than a decade for $19.7 million

When Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade secretly married in a moated castle in Florida? That much-discussed chAteau was sold for $19.7 million.

Charles Sieger, a well-known Miami architect, designed the opulent mansion above a glistening freshwater lake in which he and his wife have lived for over a decade. Château Artisan is 20,000 square feet and has eight bedrooms, seven full baths, and five powder rooms.

Sieger built the luxury mansion for himself, but it took six years to complete the engineering. The architect had to excavate the massive home’s foundation from coral rock in order to position it in a landlocked moat inspired by the river Cher beneath Château de Chenonceau in France.

Château Artisan, set on 14 acres, provides the serenity of a private paradise while retaining European beauty and medieval security. This mansion, like every fortress, has a single entrance and exit through sturdy metal gates down a single road.

A drawbridge across the lake begins or ends the tree-lined driveway. Two diamond-shaped courtyards with a black granite pool face east and west. To the north and south, stepping stones lead to two gazebos for dining or sleeping under the stars.

A double-stair entrance sets the tone for the ornate interiors. On three levels, Château Artisan features a formal dining room, a modern chef’s kitchen, and a magnificent music room. On the north wing, the main bedroom boasts 23-foot ceilings and an en suite bathroom with a dressing room island, “midnight” kitchen, and walk-in Roman tub.

A third floor with linen paneling, mahogany accents, and pleather coverings provided a wonderful change of pace. There are two children’s play lofts and two guest bedrooms here. Other wine enthusiasts will appreciate the 3,000-bottle room. For movie night, there is a home theater available.

The grounds and residence are decorated with fountains, statues, topiaries, two canals, and a lagoon. An intricate maze leads to a meditation garden complete with coral rock ruins and a waterfall. In the Japanese koi pond, you can also see fauna. «This is without a doubt the gem of Miami,» says eXp Realty listing agent Carlos Justo.
